Codelab Final

Post by kylesmith »

So I just finished with my initial 2 pages. I have put a ton of work into this site... design included in up to probably well over 40 hours. I am hosting the site on my own domain since its WordPress so here is the URL...
http://codelab.kylesmith.me/

Since I am treating this as more of a learning experience for WordPress and advanced CSS stuff the only browser that displays my website is going to be chrome version 21+. This is mostly due to me using the new flexbox spec for some of my layout and chrome is the only browser to offer full support for that. Apart from that I will be adding hover states to buttons and links in the next few days. I have been in crunch mode to get this site done and I lost a day due to version control setup and hosting DNS problems. I will also be adding more content in the homepage Core Features. Currently there are only three and they just wrap but there will be like 10 eventually. Anyways hope everyone likes it.

beautiful design. Just a couple of UI suggestions. I would like to see a home button, advanced web users know to click the logo but others might not. On the pricing page there is only one sign up button. what if I want either of the other plans? On the horizontal scroll I would like that to move over 3 on click instead of one. less clicks = better user experience, Great job

Took your advice into consideration. Added a home link(oversight on my part) and change how much the core features scroll. As far as the one signup button goes Im not entirely sure what I want to do there. I was thinking of having a signup form come up with option in there on which one to apply for. Or I was thinking of some slide-up/slide-down thing. Still thinking about it.

That was quick haha. (in regards to Brandons suggestions) I like that you did word press, I need to learn that as well.

I still think its huge but its better than it was. The small teams is pretty much the size of my hand and on smaller screens that takes up a bunch of the space. but ehhh its not that big of deal.

Very nice. Well thought out. I noticed there is a white gap between the purple background and the texture on the home page. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but I think if the purple and texture were flush with one another it would be a more cohesive look

@ brienicole - WordPress is awesome thing to learn. Once you have a general understanding of the CMS and can build your own themes you can basically get a job at any webshop. Especially if you know design too.

@ miss_kristine - Yes the white line between the navigation and the purple background is intentional. I will play around with it a bit more opaque and see what I like better. Thanks for the feedback.

Very nice website, it's different to see a purple color scheme, and it goes well with the site. I like the texture you used for preliminary more though, I like the abstract feel to that texture. I too want to know a bit more about WordPress, but it seems a bit complex for me right now, but it looks like fun.

Cool idea. I really enjoy you site layout but I am unsure about the bottom margin. From the computer I am on your botom is large without any content.

Great job on the site. It is very clean and easy to navigate through. I think the form boxes might work better if they are pushed away from the side a bit and also a little small. Other than those small details, it looks great. Good job.
