I really liked both of your designs, but I am very fond of your first one. It is a modern design, especially with the color scheme that it has. The contrast between the background and menus are really easy to read, which I really like. On your second design, i feel like its much more of a retro-themed website, and I feel like there could be more on the page, so it doesn't look too simple.
