Hi all
This is Kiwako.
My concept of project 1 is "coffeer". I LOVE coffee so much, so I wanna know about coffee more!

Here is my roughs:
First rough
I used the illustration of coffee mug as logo.

Second rough
I'm going to make it scroll.

Thanks :)

i really like your second comp. its something I think i would see more in the real world. I would try doing two different kinda of font families. Like a san serif with a serif.

Oh man... you're photos make me want some fancy coffee now. Both concepts would be great for this project, and I'm having a hard time picking one, but I actually like your top layout more! It seems more relaxed and very "shabby-chic", which a lot of coffee shops look like inside. I'm especially fond of your little coffee cup logo, it's so cute, I would add some kind of really subtle pattern to the cup to make it a little more unique. I also like the two typefaces you chose, they go together well. My one suggestion is to make that bottom brown color the same as the brown coffee that's in your cup logo. That will create some visual unity, and tie everything together more. Nice job!

Hi Kiwako! Wow, nice roughs! I like the home page of rough #1 and the inner page of rough #2. The inner page in rough#1 is too busy for my taste and the text gets lost in all the background imagery. One way that you could tie those two together is with the burlap as a background, without the coffee beans. Good start!

I love the photo in the first layouts home page! Really nice I really like the homepage in the first design! And I like the layout in the inner page of the second design. Maybe combine the two? :D Really nice colors in the first layout.

I had no idea there was so much to learn about coffee! I like the comp 2 designs. The first roughs had too many components that it looked a bit cluttered and there were contrast issues. I did however enjoy the photo of the beans on the burlap. That image tells a story. I would also choose two different fonts, one for the headlines and another for the body and paragraphs I think it would give it better hierarchy.

A nice set of roughs, Kiwako. Good work.

Both make me want to have a cup of coffee, even though it's waaaay too late in the evening for such things.

I like your second design better, even if it does lack a logo. The first is just too busy. My eye is bouncing all over the place in it and that gives me a headache. Your second design, in contrast is clean, relaxing and linear. It's easy to follow and the large pictures at the top does a lot of informing. It's interesting the memory triggers we have, but I can practically smell the cup of coffee on your home page and hear the clatter and chatter of a busy coffee house. The color and contrast help move the eye from section to section and the little shadows and highlights add texture throughout the design. The main navigation is easy to follow and, after a few moments, the secondary nav at the top pops into focus as well. Great use of imagery throughout. It both reinforces the topic and expands upon any text content that's already there.

Just a couple of suggestions to better your second design. One, tighten up the space in the middle of your pages. You've got a neat little statement or question and then a hundred miles of margin at the top and bottom of that statement or question. Tighten that space up or enlarge your top image to push your statement or question down a bit. Two, grab the logo from the first design and use it on the second. I don't see a logo on the second. Three, I would use a uniform typeface throughout the pages. The slightly distressed font you use for your secondary navigation at the top, middle statement, and copyright at the bottom clashes a bit with the font used in your image and main navigation. I'd use regular and bold versions of your image and main navigation type on everything else.

Great work! I looks forward to seeing it live on the internet. Image

Both color choice are appropriate to your coffee product, your rough 1, the coffee bean image looks good, but I think you can play more on the coffeer logo; I like your rough2 layout more, clean and clear, easy to read...Good job, Kiwako.

Coffee is a wonderful thing, and so are both of your layouts. I'm favoring the first concept just a little more even with the busy components. It seems more open and friendlier, so if you could scale back on some of those elements I think it would be all the more stronger for it. The second layout is also great, but it also reminded me of the Starbucks website at first glance. If that's what you were intending then you're perfectly fine, but I think the first concept would be a more unique one to work with.

I enjoy both of them. both are different looks, on the first one coffeer on the mug doesn't look like right, the font or that or just placed on it wrong not sure what it is.
