HI all,

Here are my roughs for project one. I decided to create a french cheese company. I tried to make designs clean, simple, and elegant as well as visually appealing with colors which are soft and pleasing to the eye. I also created two different logos for the business. Please let me know what you think. I have included two home pages, one "about us" page, and one "product" page. Thank you!
By the way.... one thing for sure about this project, it is making me very, very hungry.

I love the first one for its style, all the script fonts and idea. Second is cool for its images and simplicity. If you could add some pictures for first one, so audience would visually take a look on the product - first would be the best. Great work on both logos. Good luck with making in in html format!

Donna,

Nice work on both layouts. I really like the artwork and layout of the first set and the color scheme for the second. If you could use the red and gray on the first layout, I would really help give it some contrast and you could use the red for focal points. Or I could just say it would "make it pop" like every other critique I've been a part of. 8-)

Hi Donna - I think your use of photography for the background is a fantastic idea, and your color palettes are working for me. I think I'm leaning toward the logo in the first design, because I do like that hand-made, artisan quality of the rustic barn. It seems to fit in with the cheese company. I also like the chalkboard design, but I'm thinking for the homepage you might want to go with one big board instead of three small ones. Make some big, bold statement on that board and really let some pretty fonts shine. Then you can use smaller chalkboards through the site to unify it with the homepage. The overall feeling on both designs is right on for the target market. Very nice.

love the chalkboard idea! the hand drawn logo of the first design along with the chalkboards immediately made me think of having wine and cheese in some french countryside. very artistic and effective. I like the way you accessorize your designs with little details and fun elements, like the picture of the shopping bag. really nice job

Oh see, now I'm getting all hungry. Thanks alot Donna!

I'd say you've got two good designs here. I personally prefer the first because of the chalkboard motif and logo, but also because it seems to get more of the little details (spacing, alignment, tab widths, margins, etc.) right than the second design does. I think it makes great use of layout, alignment, spacing, and contrast. The logo feels more ... "classical" I guess is the word. Clean and old fashioned.

A few suggestions though:

- Include more color pictures of the food. I like the use of a B&W photo as a background element, but I'd be hungrier if there were some nice color food photos in the foreground. This is something your second design does well.

- Clean up that white box behind the logo. You've got a fantastic, well laid out, well detailed design here, but you've plopped the logo across the top with some sort of clipped white box behind it. Either shrink your logo so it fits on your top bar or put it in a vertical box descending from the top center.

- Unify the capitalization of your text links line at the bottom. Make sure that all your text links at the bottom have a uniform system of capitalization. Add a bit more space between each link as well. Right now they run together.

- Maybe bring over some of those nice hunger inducing colors and textures from the second design and see how they go with this layout.

Otherwise you've done an excellent job with these. Good work.
